About SLBD

Straight Line Building Design is a diverse team of Architects and Designers striving to create enduring, timeless Architecture that is respectful of tradition but not constrained by it. We are about Individual design that enhances the living experience – visually and spatially engaging buildings that are personally crafted, carefully detailed, and as unique as those who inhabit them. We believe that a thoughtfully designed building should be unified with the natural environment, respectful of the landscape, and present as an enhancement to rather than an encroachment on the site.

We design homes and commercial buildings across a broad spectrum of vernaculars, including Lake homes, Mountain retreats and Ski lodges, Modern & Traditional homes, period renovations, eclectic cabins, prefabricated modular housing, Equestrian facilities, Retail stores, and Civic buildings. We have offices in Sandpoint, Idaho and Arlington, MA, and have built projects throughout the Pacific Northwest, Mountain West, New England and the East Coast.

Design Process

Design is an interactive process requiring patience, experience, creativity and a balance between the programmatic requirements, correspondence with local building and zoning codes, budgetary concerns, site constraints, and aesthetics.

The first thing we do is to have a general forum gathering between the Designer/s + Owner/s to institute a relationship, begin exploration of design needs, and turn a project vision into reality.
